It is confirmed now the next generation iPhone will have OLED display when a new report from The Korea Herald said Samsung may supply Apple with 100 million unit display on an annual basis starting from 2017. If the deal is a success, it will be worth about $2.59 billion. OLED display will allow Apple to design a slimmer iPhone while providing a sharper image. But the cost to manufacture OLED displays is expensive, and it has a shorter lifetime compare to standard LCD. It is something Apple has to overcome the weakness with other display’s manufacturers. Other than Samsung, LG and Foxconn are another potential candidates to supply Apple with OLED display. The new OLED screen is expected to arrive with iPhone 8 in 2018.
