Apple Pay is officially coming to China in 2016. Apple announced they will partner with China UnionPay which will cover 15 of China’s leading banks. They hope the service can be up before 2016 Chinese New Year but it depends on test results and certification required by Chinese regulators. China may become fifth country to support contactless payment services for Apple Pay after United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.
Apple also plan to bring in their Apple Pay to Hong Kong, Spain and Singapore soon. In China, Apple Pay have to compete with other local payment services including Tencent’s WeChat and AliPay by Alibaba. Apple have the advantage compare to other competitors because customers in China already have iPhone and Apple Watch which support Apple Pay. It is only matter of time for them to utilize it when the service officially launch soon.
