Apple was granted 21 patents today, and one of them may change users experience in the future. It believed the patent would be Apple’s next generation on-the-air 3D Touch feature. The new patent allows Apple to have a 3D projection for a different user interface. Called as “Optical Pattern Projection”, it allows Apple to get the depth (z-axis) instead of just x and y-axis. It is something similar to current Apple 3D Touch on Macbook and iPhone 6s, but the medium is the air, not a touch panel or touch screen. If Apple ever made it into production, you may see its application on their future desktops, Apple TV or even on Apple CarPlay.
