Apple is experimenting new iPhone manufacturer other than Foxconn. They added Wistron as their new supplier for the new 4-inch iPhone. Although the number of order is a fraction of the total orders, it shows Apple is open to finding non-Foxconn Apple manufacturer.
Apple has been trying to separate its orders to different ODMs to avoid risks. In February 2015, the vendor added Compal Electronics as an iPad mini manufacturer, and Wistron to conduct iPhone touch panel lamination, and has recently outsourced a small portion of its new 4-inch iPhone orders to Wistron, looking to nurture Wistron to become an iPhone assembly house, according to some market watchers
It is part of their plan to minimizing risk relying on one single vendor and at the same time maximizing profit along the process. Wistron was invited to join Apple’s supply chain in 2015 alongside Compal Electronics. With diversify suppliers, Apple wants to ensure no shortage in their inventories if demands on their products increase exponentially.
